Unfortunately this is not the case, I do not tamper with the mapping settings and both controllers are up to date with their firmware. I do not know the cause of this as the controller at one point just stops taking in inputs and turning the controller off and on do not do anything. I have to reset my xbox for it to work and i feel i shouldnt have to be doing that for it to work.

HI hammersaber!

When was the last time you checked to see if your controllers were updated?

Follow these steps to update your controller wirelessly and to support the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter:

  1. Sign in to Xbox Live on your Xbox One console and install the latest system update if prompted to do so.
  2. If you have a stereo headset adapter, plug it into the bottom of your controller so it can also get updates.
  3. If you're using a stereo headset adapter, plug in a headset (a headset must be plugged in so the adapter will turn on).
  4. Press theXboxbutton  to open the guide.
  5. SelectSystem >Kinect & devices >Devices & accessories, and then select the controller you want to update.
  6. SelectDevice info, select theFirmware version box, and then selectContinue.
  7. When the update is complete, you can update additional controllers. If they can only be updated via USB, see Update via USB. Otherwise, select theUpdate another button on the screen after the first update is complete, and then follow the steps.
  1. Update via USB

Follow these steps to update your controller via USB and to support the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter:

    1. Sign in to Xbox Live on your Xbox One console and install the latest system update if prompted to do so.
    2. If you have one, plug the stereo headset adapter into the bottom of your controller so it can also get updates.
    3. If you're using a stereo headset adapter, plug in a headset (a headset must be plugged in so the adapter will turn on).
    4. Plug the big end of the included USB cable into the port on the left side of the console, around the corner from the disc tray.
    5. Plug the small end of the USB cable into the top of the controller.
    6. Instructions to install the update should automatically appear. Follow the instructions, and don't disconnect the USB cable while the update is in progress. (The process can take up to 3 minutes.)
If instructions to install the update don't automatically appear, you can start the process manually. To do this, press theXboxbutton  to open the guide, selectSystem >Kinect & devices >Devices & accessories, and then select the controller you want to update. SelectDevice info, select theFirmware version box, and then selectContinue.
    7. When the update is complete, unplug the USB cable. If you have additional controllers to update, connect them now, one at a time, select theUpdate another button on the screen, and then follow the steps.
    8. Press theXbox button  on the wireless controller to turn it on. Your controller is now up to date, and you're ready to use your Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter.

I'll post the link to extra steps to update if needed: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/accessories/update-controller-for-stereo-headset-adapter Thanks for using the forums, give us an update if this resolved your controller

Thanks!

If this is constantly happening, then there could also be something wrong with the controllers themselves.

There are a few other things you could try:

  • How far away are you from your console? You can try to move closer to your console and try to eliminate as many obstructions (other computers, shelves, take it out of an entertainment center, etc) between the controller and console.
  • Do you have any accessories attached? If so, remove these and test your results.
  • Do you have a micro-USB? If so, connect it to your console and controller and see if you still are receiving disruptions when trying to play.
  • Do you have other blue-tooth enabled devices turned on? Try turning these off one by one. I know it seems silly, but sometimes other devices can actually be running on the same frequency and cause periodic disruptions in signal.

If all else fails, you can can always send your device in to get repaired

I thought there was something wrong with my controllers as well but I don't think that is the case, when it happened to the first controller I was using I then thought to just switch over to my other one but I then noticed it was having the same issue as the one before. It would connect but no inputs were going through. I then turned both on and see if anything would happen and odd enough both experienced the same issue at the same exact time. I knew it went wrong because the light on the home button goes a bit brighter when the inputs stop going through.

Distance wise in my usual spot maybe 8-9 feet and there is no obstructions in the way of the xbox, I also did try usb connection with both and they experienced the same issue at the same exact time. It be weird to assume both controllers are bad when one is just barely a year old and the other is the original i got when i got the xbox one. As for bluetooth there are no devices that are connected in that way near the xbox or connected to the xbox via bluetooth nor any accessories.

Have you tried to put it with the USB cable? otherwise do this. Press the Xbox button to open the Help.

Under System, select Settings.

Under Kinect and devices, select devices and accessories.

On the Xbox One Wireless Controller screen, select Configure.

Carefully examine the current mapping for each of the buttons on the controller. You can also select Restore to default to return the controller to the original button mapping.

Or you may need to update the controller. See this page for instructions on how to upgrade your Xbox one controller.

Hey there Hammersaber thanks for keeping in touch.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused but rest assured we are here to help, we have seen this in the past and since the issue could be on the actual OS of the console so we would suggest a > Soft Factory Reset < (while keeping games and apps) IF AND ONLY IF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA IS MET:

  • There is a stable network connection.

  • The information for all profiles is known (email and passwords)

Once the setup is complete it will ask if we want to keep settings or manual setup lets do manual setup. Give it a shot and let us know of any changes!

Thanks again for being the best part of our Xbox team!
